Impact Lead - Program Delivery, Engagement and Communications

Hireup, Impact Team

Sydney ᐧ 04/2021 - 09/2023 (including parental leave)

Working in close partnership with the Hireup Co-founders, Senior Director of Strategy and Operations, and Director of Impact and Innovation, my core responsibility was to bring Hireup’s (new) purpose ‘to enable the pursuit of a good life for everyone’ to life for the support office team (300+ employees) and the Hireup community (10,000+ support worker workforce and 10,000+ customers - people with disability).

I achieved this by designing, delivering and managing employee, customer and impact programs. This varied role required an entrepreneurial and delivery-focused approach and strong project and stakeholder management. It also required me to build and lead cross-functional project teams (12+ people) and spearhead a wide range of brand, marketing, and communications initiatives.

I designed, delivered and managed the following programs:

  • Hireup Impact Grants (an accessible community grants program focused on creating deep impact and improving seven essential quality of life (QoL) domains for people with disability).

  • Hireup Good Life Awards (Hireup’s first community-led reward and recognition program, celebrating Hireup’s 10,000+ workforce of disability support workers across Australia).

  • Hireup Board Observership Program & ‘How-to’ Guide (a professional development program (and guide) dedicated to increasing the number of board-ready candidates with disability in Australia. This program also brings Hireup’s customer voice and perspective to the highest level of decision-making).

  • Media Diversity Australia’s “Disability Reporting Handbook” (a detailed handbook and public resource to support better newsroom reporting of people with disability).

  • Hireup’s Impact Roundtable Series (a free, accessible public event designed to elevate and demystify the varied experiences and perspectives of people with disability).

  • Hi-Con (a bi-annual support office employee experience and program of learning, connection and reflection; pulling wisdom from speakers from some of the biggest purpose-led players in the business, such as Daniel Flynn, Co-founder and Managing Director at Thankyou, and the Director of Philosophy at Patagonia, Vincent Stanley).

I was also responsible for leading:

  • The acquisition and ongoing management of strategic partnerships to help scale the impact of Hireup and its programs.

  • Hireup’s first Impact Engagement and Communications Strategy. This focused on ensuring the support office team had the knowledge, tools and capabilities to harness innovation and drive social change whilst driving purpose-led brand and communications initiatives that contributed to Hireup’s reputation and authenticity as an impact thought leader.

  • The development of Hireup's Good Life Framework, a social impact measurement communications tool Hireup uses alongside its SIMNA award-winning social impact measurement (SIM) monitor. These tools allow Hireup to track and communicate the business's impact on the quality of life of its customers (people with disability).

  • The development of ‘impact’ and ‘purpose’ related copy and content, e.g. social impact measurement insights and statistics, educational tools and microlearning packs, internal (Confluence) and public landing pages, resources, guides and blog posts showcasing the experiences and perspectives of our employees, leaders and community of people with lived experience of disability, employee onboarding packs, open-source ‘how-to’ program guides, infographics, annual reports and all impact program-related copy and content.

  • The design and delivery of online and in-person events and engagement experiences for the team and community.

  • The recruitment, selection and onboarding of a key Impact team member, Hireup’s first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Manager.

Talent Acquisition Lead

Hireup, People Team

Sydney ᐧ 04/2018 - 04/2021

As a Lead in the People team (3 x direct reports) and Hireup's first Talent Acquisition (TA) hire, I played a key role in driving the People team roadmap and programs of work meanwhile building the TA function from the ground up (team, strategy, brand, operations).

Below is a snapshot of my responsibilities and key achievements:

  • Worked closely with the executive leadership team (ELT) to scale the support office team from 35 to 230+ people in three years.

  • Built and supported a values-aligned team of senior TA specialists, ensuring they had the tools, insights and runway to deliver on the ever-evolving demands of hyper-growth and create inclusive, accessible and equitable experiences for all.

  • Delivered the lion’s share of product, engineering and leadership recruitment at the peak of Hireup’s hyper-growth journey, saving the business hundreds of thousands of dollars in recruitment fees.

  • Designed and delivered the People and Talent strategy and roadmap and supported individual contributors with executing People programs.

  • Hired C-Suite leaders across Product, Technology, Growth, People, Risk, Strategy, Operations and the Board.

  • Led by example, ensuring my team felt safe, supported and seen during periods of intense growth and uncertainty (COVID).

  • Spearheaded V1 of Hireup’s employer brand, finding creative ways to attract and engage high-performing, values-aligned talent during a period of limited resources, brand awareness and a basic employee value proposition (EVP).

  • I was also regularly involved in leading and/or supporting a wide variety of ad-hoc initiatives, including process and technology improvements, job design, people capability, hiring manager capability, and mapping and evolving the TA experience.
